A geometric monoline display face by Marialisa Giavitto that reinterprets blackletter forms through the lens of cathedral tracery and wrought-iron ornamentation across five stylistic variants.
About
Built on a modular, monoline structure, Cathedra strips medieval lettering back to its architectural essentials whilst retaining a dark, gothic presence. The five styles – Outline, Rough, Rough Underlined, Soft and Soft Underlined – are designed to layer together, with the underlined variants connecting letters via a continuous horizontal baseline evoking forged iron grids. The character set covers 159 glyphs, including uppercase letters, alternates, numerals, punctuation and mathematical symbols.
Classification
A contemporary geometric monoline display face drawing on blackletter letterforms and gothic architectural ornament. Though inspired by medieval lettering traditions, its modular, rectilinear construction places it firmly in the display category rather than traditional blackletter.
