A single sans-serif family by Damien Gautier that houses four distinct character sets – Standard, Geometric, Modern and Grotesk – switchable via OpenType stylistic sets, across five weights with italics and a display cut.
About
Gautier designed Maax to answer whether one typeface without serifs could suffice for a designer, embedding four distinct drawing traditions within a single family: an all-purpose neutral, a Bauhaus-inspired geometric, a Futura-adjacent modern, and a Helvetica-lineage grotesk. The family spans Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black, each with an italic, plus a separately conceived Display version with its own character alternates. The project won First Prize at the Club des directeurs artistiques type design award in 2014.
Classification
