A single-weight, all-caps stencil face by Damien Gautier, derived from faded ground markings whose metal-plate origins give the letters a blunt, industrial character.
About
Amiral began with the discovery of worn letters painted on a surface, their forms weathered by years of vehicle traffic. Gautier formalised this vernacular source into a typeface whose letterforms recall stencils cut from metal plate, reminiscent of cargo container markings. Though limited to capitals, the family includes a set of alternative glyphs and was completed with assistance from Roxane Gataud.
Classification
All-caps stencil typeface derived from found lettering painted on the ground, evoking industrial marking traditions such as cargo container stencilling. Its single roman weight and capital-only character set place it firmly in the display category.
