zk Trembita specimen from Zakznak

A curve-free display typeface from Zakznak, drawn from the tradition of carved Carpathian lettering and named after the Ukrainian highlanders' alpine horn.

About

Each letterform is constructed entirely from straight strokes, producing an angular warmth that evokes words cut into wood rather than drawn on paper. Five weights run from Thin to Medium, covering Latin and Cyrillic scripts with 559 glyphs per style. The design references Hutsul folk culture of western Ukraine, lending it a specific cultural identity uncommon in contemporary display type.

Classification

A display typeface constructed entirely without curves, giving each letterform a carved, angular quality. Its geometric rigidity and deliberate clumsiness place it firmly in the display category, unsuited to running text.
