Kiln specimen from Yellow Design Studio

A 12-style distressed display family from Ryan Martinson, offering serif and sans-serif versions each in Regular, Spiked and Shadow cuts with matching italics.

About

Each sub-family comes in three stylistic variants: a standard distressed cut, a spiked version with pointed terminals, and a shadow layer for depth effects. Automatic double-letter ligatures prevent repeated texture patterns from appearing beside each other, maintaining the illusion of hand-crafted lettering at large sizes. Two levels of distress per style add further control over the aged, worn aesthetic.

Classification

Kiln is a display family with distinct serif and sans-serif sub-families, unified by deliberate distressing and a hand-crafted historical character. The 'spiked' variants and texture-based ligatures place it firmly in the display/decorative category rather than text use.
