A nine-weight geometric sans with a variable font counterpart, built around the Roman concept of spolia – repurposing existing forms to create something new.
About
Designed by John Kudos and Jamus Marquette, Spolia spans nine static weights from Hairline to Extra Bold, each available in OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2 formats, alongside a variable font. The typeface takes its name from the ancient Roman practice of incorporating stones from old buildings into new construction, applying that logic to letterform components. Stylistic alternates extend the family's expressive range.
Classification
A clean, upright sans-serif with geometric underpinnings and a wide weight range from Hairline to Extra Bold. The concept of reusing and repurposing forms suggests a rationalist, structured approach to letter construction rather than humanist looseness.
