VZWO VARIANZ Mix specimen from VZWO Type

A variable hybrid typeface occupying the intermediate axis of the VARIANZ superfamily, blending sans-serif and serif extremes across two sliders to give designers granular control over typographic tone.

About

Part of Viktor Zumegen's VARIANZ Variable Superfamily, the Mix family sits between the four standalone extremes – High Sans, Low Sans, High Serif and Low Serif – offering three static instances (High, Mid and Low) as well as continuous interpolation. The two-axis system lets designers dial in precisely how much serif presence and expressive weight enters the design language. Released in 2020 and updated to version 2.0 in 2023, it ships with 583 glyphs per style and broad Latin coverage across 215 languages.

Classification

A variable font family that interpolates between sans-serif and serif extremes across two axes (Expression and Serifs), with the Mix subfamily occupying the intermediate space between High and Low Sans and Serif characters. Defies a single static category, but defaults to sans-serif as its neutral axis.
