Bulbia specimen from Typogama

A single-weight, high-contrast display face inspired by Middle Eastern teardrop forms, expanded into a design toolkit through swash letters, titling alternates and precomposed word marks.

About

Designed by Michael Parson and released in January 2023, Bulbia combines bold strokes with pronounced contrast, drawing its distinctive character from teardrop shapes found in Middle Eastern design. Despite offering only one weight, an extensive set of OpenType features including swash letters, decorative titling forms and precomposed word marks gives the family considerable flexibility for headline and branding applications. It covers an extended Latin character set across ISO Latin-1 through Latin-4 encodings, available as OTF and WOFF2 formats.

Classification

A single-weight display face with bold strokes and high contrast, drawing on Middle Eastern teardrop forms. Its decorative character and OpenType feature set place it firmly in the display category.
