A monolinear slab serif in nine weights with matching italics, distinguished by curved spurs and a restrained rationalism inspired by the Styrian region of Austria.
About
Designed by Jürgen Schwarz in 2015, Muriza combines blocky slab serifs with curved spurs in place of conventional terminals, giving it a quietly individual character within the Clarendon tradition. Nine weights run from delicate Hairline to sturdy Black, each accompanied by a lively italic, and the family is available as a variable font. Rounded dots, small caps, oldstyle figures and stylistic alternates extend its utility across publishing, branding, packaging and wayfinding.
Classification
A monolinear slab serif with low stroke contrast and blocky serifs, placing it squarely in the Clarendon/Ionic tradition. Distinctive curved spurs in place of conventional serifs add a gentle idiosyncrasy to the otherwise rational structure.
