sans-serifgrotesque
Di Grotesk specimen from Threedotstype

A grotesque sans-serif built around historically derived diacritic forms, drawing on Polish printing traditions from the 17th century through to the People's Republic era.

About

Di Grotesk takes its name from its central concern: diacritics. The uppercase letters are kept shorter than ascenders to create additional clearance for accent marks, which are offered in multiple stylistic sets derived from historical typographic sources. These range from incunabula-era solutions to the improvised conventions of shortage-economy Polish printing, offering an unusually deep engagement with Central European typographic history.

Classification

Draws explicitly on early 19th-century grotesque sans-serifs, with a construction rooted in that lineage. The defining feature is its historically informed diacritic system rather than any structural departure from grotesque conventions.
