Based in the United States, Tarallo has a practice spanning typeface design, visual identity and publication work since 1997. His background includes identity projects for Sotheby's and the Hong Kong Design Institute, alongside academic roles at institutions across the US, China, South Korea and Italy. He holds a Marion and Jasper Whiting Fellowship for research into the history of typography in Italy.
