A Renaissance humanist roman drawn from the letterforms of Jenson and Aldus Manutius, extended to cover Latin, Cyrillic, Greek and Mongolian scripts.
About
Developed during the MA Typeface Design programme at the University of Reading in 2010–11, the design deliberately channels the energy of pre-canonical early Italian roman types by Conrad & Pannarz and Da Spira rather than the settled conventions of Jenson or Manutius. Non-Latin expansions include Cyrillic, Greek and a pioneering Mongolian script, the latter requiring original research including field trips to Mongolia and a novel approach blending calligraphic and typographic forms. Marco received an honorary diploma at Modern Cyrillic 2014 and a typeface design award at TDC vol. 27 in 2015.
Classification
Directly inspired by early Italian Renaissance romans, particularly Jenson and Aldus Manutius, with roots in humanist calligraphy. The design draws from pre-canonical roman experiments, placing it firmly in the humanist serif tradition.
