Inkulinati
Tabular Type Foundry · Toshi Omagari · 2021

A custom blackletter drawn for Yaza Games' Inkulinati, balancing medieval manuscript aesthetics with the legibility demands of a digital game UI, and notably including Cyrillic support.
About
Designed for use across body text, UI elements and the logotype of the Inkulinati game, the typeface draws inspiration from 13th-century illuminated manuscripts while deliberately avoiding the thin hairlines and oversized capitals of authentic textura. Curved strokes give a hand-crafted quality, and the design follows the simplified 20th-century blackletter tradition of Rudolf Koch and Berthold Wolpe. Cyrillic support makes it a rare example of a blackletter suited to multilingual game deployment.
Classification
A 20th-century-style blackletter designed for digital legibility, drawing on the simplified forms of Rudolf Koch and Berthold Wolpe rather than strict medieval textura or rotunda. Curved strokes replace sharp angles and hairlines are removed to ensure screen readability at small sizes.
