About
The Arabic component, designed by Pascal Zoghbi under calligraphic supervision from Wissam Shawkat, tackles the historically tricky Ruqah style with meticulous OpenType engineering to handle its slanted baseline across multiple environments. The accompanying Latin, designed by Eigi Tosche, translates Ruqah's calligraphic character through out-strokes without in-strokes, diagonally cut stems, and cap and lowercase heights that increase proportionally with weight to match Ruqah's own scaling behaviour. Three stroke style variants (Sharp, Flat and Round) each span six weights, giving the family considerable range for text-oriented use.
Classification
The Latin component draws from Humanistic Hand and Foundational Hand traditions, with diagonally cut out-strokes and no in-strokes, mirroring the exit-only calligraphic logic of Ruqah. The Arabic is in the Ruqah style, making this a bicameral humanist sans with strong calligraphic roots.
