About
Furnir goes back to lettering architect Juhani Pallasmaa and his assistant Juha Ilonen drew by hand in 1984 for the cover of a book on Alvar Aalto's furniture. Sascha Bente kept the curved logic of letters like the lowercase a while adding constructed alternates for letters like n and t, so the typeface bends the way Aalto's bent-wood furniture does.
