Thorben
Studio Buchanan · Jonny Gibson · 2020

An all-caps decorative display face by Jonny Gibson that blends Art Nouveau curves, Celtic script lettering and modernist touches into an intentionally hybrid, antiquated aesthetic.
About
Originating from redrawn carvings on a castle wall in Suffolk, Thorben evolved into something far removed from its source, absorbing Celtic script, Art Nouveau curves and scattered modernist details. The four-weight family – Light through Bold – covers basic Latin only, with no lowercase, diacritics or italics as yet. The foundry acknowledges it remains a work in progress at v0.01, with no clear endpoint defined.
Classification
An all-caps display face blending Art Nouveau curves, Celtic script and modernist details, self-described as 'Druidic Display'. Its ornate, antiquated character and lack of lowercase place it firmly in the decorative display category.
