displaycalligraphic displaymono
Store Norske Maleri specimen from Store Norske Skriftkompani

A display typeface by Arve Båtevik that reinterprets Ehmcke's Mediaeval (1917) through geometric construction, pairing monumental calligraphic capitals with flowing lowercase letters.

About

Beneath its handcrafted appearance, Maleri is structured on a grid of circles, triangles and squares, producing a tension between organic warmth and architectural rigour. The monumental uppercase carries real presence at headline sizes, while the lowercase retains enough script-like movement to suit branding and crafts-oriented work. A companion monospaced variant, Maleri Mono, extends the family into typewriter-inspired territory.

Classification

A display typeface rooted in Ehmcke's Mediaeval (1917), combining calligraphic letterforms with an underlying geometric construction of circles, triangles and squares. Monumental capitals and flowing lowercase place it firmly in the display/calligraphic category.
