Werkzeug specimen from Slow Fonts

A modular geometric sans designed on a strict minimalist grid during a 2021 residency in Leipzig, offering four weights with matching italics and a raw, tool-like character.

About

Designed by Fabien Coupas and published in 2022, Werkzeug takes its name from the German word for "tool" and draws on the visual language of engineer-designed standardised type systems. Its glyph construction follows a minimal grid that enforces structural consistency across all eight styles. Six OpenType stylistic sets provide alternate letterforms for characters including G, Q, R, W, t and w, alongside oldstyle, tabular and lining figure variants.

Classification

Werkzeug is a geometric sans built on a strict minimalist grid, giving each glyph a modular, engineered quality reminiscent of standardised technical lettering. Its raw, systematic construction places it firmly in the geometric sans tradition.
