A wide, chunky all-caps display face drawn from a hand-lettered word on a vintage Cairo hotel luggage label, extended to a full alphabet with Egyptian hieroglyph-inspired icons.
About
The design originated from the word 'EGYPT' found on a National Hotel Cairo luggage label in the Letterform Archive, with its simplified G and lowercase-ish Y informing the character of the remaining letterforms. Three weights – Regular, Medium and Bold – share the same rounded, rough-edged quality of the source material, alongside extended Latin diacritics and a small set of Egyptian icon glyphs. Alternate characters are included for B, C, E, F, S, W and the asterisk.
Classification
An all-caps, sans-serif display face with chunky, rounded letterforms derived from hand-lettered vintage luggage label lettering. Its wide proportions, inky texture and simplified glyphs place it firmly in the display category rather than a functional sans-serif.
