Originally commissioned for a state transportation agency, this six-style humanist sans prioritises legibility and accessibility through open counters, asymmetrical bowls and carefully disambiguated letterforms.
About
Designed to support dyslexic and reading-challenged users, Thalo addresses mirror invariance by drawing b, d, p and q with asymmetrical bowls, and distinguishes I, l, 1 and i through serifs, tails and flags. Low stroke contrast and generous letterspacing maintain visual cohesion without tipping into clinical neutrality. The same clarity that suits signage, timetables and interfaces carries into editorial and branding contexts with equal effectiveness.
Classification
A humanist sans-serif with open apertures, generous x-height and low stroke contrast – characteristics consistent with the humanist tradition. Deliberately designed to resist dyslexic mirror invariance through asymmetrical bowls and disambiguated letterforms.
