On a mission to create the world’s biggest index of typefaces from the world’s best type foundries

monogeometric monomono
ISO specimen from Scribble Tone

A fixed-width geometric sans originally built for a watermarking service, taking its aesthetic cues from the engraved lettering found on Leica and Nikon camera bodies.

About

Designed for the image embedding platform exif.co, ISO adopted monospacing partly for its visual kinship with mechanical instruments and partly for the practical benefit of predictable glyph-width calculations in user-name watermarks. The design draws on the warm, tactile quality of engraved camera text and the visual language of film negatives, resulting in a sans that sits between functional signage lettering and industrial typesetting. Six weights run from Thin to Black, with oldstyle figures among its OpenType features.

Classification

A monospaced sans-serif with fixed-width glyphs throughout, designed with a mechanical, instrument-inspired aesthetic drawn from engraved camera body lettering. The even stroke weight and geometric construction place it firmly in the geometric mono tradition.
