About
Voguing takes the glamour and physicality of the New York ballroom scene and translates it into letterform: each glyph is constructed from parallel multiline strokes whose angle varies to create the illusion of three-dimensional motion. The family comes in three variants – regular, slanted and backslanted – each pushing the sense of directional energy in a different way. OpenType ligatures extend the customisation options, but the face is firmly a display tool, suited to headlines, posters and fashion branding rather than running text.
Classification
Geometric sans skeleton with multiline parallel strokes whose direction is manipulated to produce a 3D optical effect. Three directional variants (upright, slanted, backslanted) rather than a conventional weight or width range. Inspired by 1980s-90s New York ballroom culture; decorative and legible only at large sizes.
