Aldo Novarese's 1988 calligraphic typeface, originally conceived as a Greek alphabet in an English script style, now digitised with Latin and Cyrillic extensions across four weights.
About
Commissioned by Reber R41, Alfabeta was designed to bring modern, legible forms to Greek lettering whilst retaining the elegance of English calligraphic tradition. The digital release extends the original Greek into Latin and Cyrillic scripts, preserving the graceful character of Novarese's draughtsmanship. Four weights accommodate a range of compositional uses, from intimate text settings to large-scale display.
Classification
Designed as a Greek alphabet in an English calligraphic style, Alfabeta exhibits the flowing, elegant letterforms characteristic of calligraphic scripts. The Latin and Cyrillic alphabets were derived from the original Greek, retaining the graceful script quality throughout.
