A four-style experimental display family co-designed by Karl Nawrot and Radim Pesko between 2009 and 2012, each style named after a cultural figure and built on a shared stroke weight but a completely different formal logic.
About
Lÿno's four styles – Jean, Stan, Ulys and Walt – take their names from Jean Arp, Stanley Kubrick, Ulysses 31 and Walt Disney, each channelling a different typographic sensibility. Walt merges Futura's geometric rigour with the hand-lettered flow of Waltograph; Jean was constructed from cardboard offcuts photographed and digitised in a process closer to Dada collage than type design. All four share a consistent weight of line, giving them a coherent visual family despite their divergent personalities.
Classification
Four-style family sharing a consistent stroke weight but operating on entirely distinct formal logic per style. Jean was built from cardboard offcuts via a Dada-inflected cut-and-photograph process; Walt fuses Futura's geometric vectors with the hand-lettered flow of Waltograph; Stan references Kubrick's visual world; Ulys draws on a French-Japanese animated series. No italic or condensed cuts exist. Each style is essentially its own typeface, connected by weight rather than letterform genealogy.
