Jena
PSY/OPS Type Foundry · Lars Bergquist

A Fraktur family by Lars Bergquist that pairs a traditional blackletter with a cursive drawn from the Italian cancelleresca rather than a sloped version of the upright.
About
Jena is among the first Fraktur typefaces to include a purpose-built cursive companion. Rather than simply slanting the upright to produce an oblique, Bergquist grounded the Kursiv in the Italian cancelleresca, reasoning that this script was as legitimately Gothic as the rotunda was Romanesque. Both styles include Western and Eastern European characters and ligatures.
Classification
A Fraktur typeface with an accompanying cursive (Kursiv) drawn from the Italian cancelleresca tradition rather than a simple oblique, making it one of the first Fraktur families to include a genuine cursive companion.
