About
Inspired by Ed Benguiat's ITC Tiffany and the obscure Pretorian typeface attributed to P.M. Shanks and Sons of London, Mutable pairs barbed serifs with elegantly curved terminals and an extremely large x-height to create a buoyant, characterful display face. The family spans Narrow and Regular widths, nine weights from Thin to Ultra, and includes small caps with matching alternates and diacritics, totalling over 2,400 glyphs. A variable font is available on request, allowing interpolation across the full weight and width range.
Classification
Classified as display due to its explicit design intent for titling and headlines, with barbed serifs, exaggerated foxtail terminals and a large x-height borrowed from the Art Nouveau tradition. The foundry's own classification of 'Humanist Serif' reflects its warm, calligraphic proportions, but the ornate character and 523 alternates place it firmly in the display category.
