Comrade
Parkinson Type Design · Jim Parkinson

A three-font display family drawn from a 1923 hand-lettered postcard by Antwerp artist Josef Peeters, issued in three widths with letterforms that shift between upper and lower case.
About
Comrade derives from source material lettered by Belgian avant-garde artist Josef Peeters in 1923, capturing the irregular stroke character of period hand-lettering. Three fonts cover three widths, and letterforms are deliberately varied between upper and lower case to preserve the organic quality of the original. The result behaves less like a conventional typeface and more like a digitised lettering system.
Classification
Display type based on 1923 hand-lettered postcard work by Belgian artist Josef Peeters, with letterforms that vary between cases and styles in the manner of vernacular hand-lettering rather than a conventional type system.
