Fer

sans-serifgeometric sans
Fer specimen from ParaType

A variable sans-serif with geometric and old-style characteristics, designed across three optical grades and covering Latin, Cyrillic and Greek scripts.

About

Fer draws on the look of weathered Southern European signage plates, blending geometric sans construction with closed apertures associated with older sans traditions. Three optical grades – Caption, Text and Display – span six weights from Regular to Black, with a variable font providing continuous axes for weight and optical size. Language coverage is broad: Latin supports European and most African languages including Vietnamese, Cyrillic covers all living languages of that script, and Greek is included alongside currency signs, multiple figure styles and extensive localised letterforms.

Classification

Combines geometric sans-serif construction with old sans-serif traits such as closed apertures, evoking early 20th-century European signage lettering. The variable font spans weight and optical size axes across three optical grades.
