Developed over more than four years, Empirical offers six weights each with a matching italic, totalling 12 styles. The italics combine geometric simplicity with a degree of cursiveness, and an extensive suite of ligatures is included to eliminate hairline gaps at larger sizes. Available in both OpenType and TrueType formats.
Classification
Described by its creator as a 'simple sans serif with serifs', Empirical blends the clean structure of a sans-serif with traditional serif detailing, optimised for text but functional at display sizes – placing it in the humanist serif camp.
