A Cyrillic-extended adaptation of Chauncey H. Griffith's 1938 Bell Telephone directory face, released by ParaType in 1999 with italics added in 2009.
About
Originally designed for the space-saving demands of Bell Telephone Company directories, the typeface features uniform stroke weight and a compact footprint well suited to listings and catalogues. ParaType's version, extended by Isabella Chaeva, adds Cyrillic support and italic styles across all three weights. Beyond its utilitarian origins, it has found use in display advertising and magazine contexts where legibility at small sizes is a priority.
Classification
A gothique sans-serif with uniform stroke weight and moderate line contrast, originally designed for the tight spacing demands of telephone directory typography. The ParaType release extends the Bitstream version with a Cyrillic expansion and added italic styles.
