Originally derived from Kaufmann Bold, released by American Type Founders in 1936, the face was lightly reworked by Sol Hess, head of Lanston's punchcutting department. Its even stroke weight and connected letterforms made it a fixture of mid-century menus, clothing advertisements and automotive press. The single Bold weight reflects its origins as a display-oriented workhorse for commercial print.
Classification
