A single-weight display sans by Erik Spiekermann, drawn for his Berlin print studio P98a, with clothoidal curves and rounded corners that recall early 20th-century European poster lettering.

About

Originally created for Spiekermann's own P98a print studio in Berlin, the design uses largely clothoidal outer curves to ensure smooth straight-to-curve transitions, giving the letterforms a considered geometry rather than a naïve roundness. The rounded corners make it well suited to backlit signage, where hard edges tend to bleed, whilst at smaller sizes the shapes read as approachable without tipping into whimsy. Stylistic alternates for E, H, K and O offer additional variation within the single-weight family.

Classification

An all-caps geometric display sans with rounded corners and largely clothoidal outer curves, placing it firmly in the geometric sans tradition with a display orientation rooted in early 20th-century European poster lettering.
