Artscript
P22 Type Foundry · Sol Hess · 1948

A digital revival of Sol Hess's 1948 LTC Artscript, reproducing the formal penmanship style of metal type with an extensive set of alternates, swashes, ligatures and ornaments drawn from Hess's original sources.
About
Originally released in 1948, Artscript required special handling in metal to prevent the delicate letterforms from breaking. P22's digital version expands on Hess's drawings with discretionary ligatures, stylistic alternates organised into two sets, swash characters, fractions, superior and inferior numerals, and ornaments. The result is a typographically rich Latin script family suited to formal or decorative applications.
Classification
A formal penmanship-style script derived from Sol Hess's 1948 metal type design, emulating the cursive hand of historical scribes with connected letterforms and extensive swash variants.
