About
Designed between 2010 and 2011 and released through Type Together in 2015, Marco channels the unstable, energetic quality of pre-standardisation early Italian roman types rather than the settled conventions that Jenson and Manutius later codified. The retail family covers Latin, Cyrillic and Greek, with a Mongolian script extension developed through dedicated research trips to both Mongolian countries. The typeface received an honorary diploma at Modern Cyrillic 2014 and recognition in TDC vol. 27 in 2015.
Classification
A Renaissance humanistic roman drawing directly from early Italian types by Jenson and Aldus Manutius, with calligraphic influences from humanist scribes such as Niccolo Niccoli. Its letterforms reflect the lighter, slightly rightward-leaning energy of pre-standardisation early roman types.
