Klaket pairs a chunky, low-contrast Arabic in the Ruqah style with a heavy slab serif Latin that drops serifs selectively for visual interest. The Arabic design tackles the script's famously difficult slanting baseline through a custom contextual kerning solution developed with OpenType engineer Kamal Mansour. The name comes from the Arabic word for clapperboard, borrowed from the French 'claquet', anchoring the typeface firmly in its cinematic reference point.
