Forte Forward specimen from Omega Type Foundry

A 2022 revival of Monotype's 1962 Forte, liberating Karl Reißberger's brush script from the square-body constraints of metal type and restoring lost ligatures, redesigned special characters and Austrian-origin umlauts.

About

Created to mark Forte's 60th anniversary alongside the Finding Forte exhibition in Vienna, the revival corrects stroke modulation inconsistencies in the original digitisation, restores metal-era ligatures such as ck and tz, and replaces characters previously borrowed from Arial with purpose-drawn alternates. Contextual alternates, old-style figures and Reißberger's own illustrations are added for the first time. The result reads more consistently as sign painter's lettering, with uniform oval terminals and more coherent slant angles throughout.

Classification

A brush-style display script revival drawing on sign painter's lettering traditions, with strong stroke modulation and calligraphic terminals. Designed for display use at large sizes, with no text-weight counterpart.
