Belinsky specimen from Omega Type Foundry

A monospaced typeface drawing from architectural letterforms and geometric type, with OpenType contextual alternates that adjust problem glyphs like i, l, t and f to compensate for fixed-width spacing gaps.

About

Belinsky takes its visual cues from exaggerated architectural lettering, with nods to Kabel visible in the g and italic e, and a ß borrowed directly from Berlin street signage. The Q's unconventional construction is a deliberate reinterpretation of a coarse-pixel Capcom game font from the 1941 arcade game. To address the inherent spacing problems of monospaced type, alternate glyph shapes for i, l, t and f expand or contract contextually, a technique Omagari previously explored in Cowhand (2015).

Classification

A monospaced typeface with geometric influences, drawing from architectural lettering and Kabel. The fixed-width spacing is its defining structural constraint, with OpenType contextual alternates used to address inherent mono spacing issues.
