A digital revival of Joseph Blumenthal's 1930s metal typeface, originally cut by hand for the Spiral Press and later noted as the sole Monotype classic never to have received a digital release.
About
Designed in the 1930s by Blumenthal, proprietor of New York's Spiral Press, the typeface takes its name from a hand-printed edition of Ralph Waldo Emerson's Nature. Its open counters, sturdy serifs and absence of fine lines made it well regarded for offset and gravure reproduction even in the letterpress era. This revival offers two optical size families, Text and Display, each with a Book Italic.
Classification
A metal type revival with strong serifs, moderate stroke contrast and open counters, originally cut by hand for letterpress and later adapted for machine composition. These characteristics place it firmly in the transitional serif tradition, designed for legibility across a range of reproduction methods.
