MRL Transit
Morula Type · Valerio Monopoli · 2025

A MICR-inspired display type spanning eight widths with a variable font and vintage computing character.
About
MRL Transit reinterprets the functional letterforms of Magnetic Ink Character Recognition type, adding rounded strokes and a retro quality drawn from early computing aesthetics. It comes in eight static widths – ultra condensed to ultra expanded – plus a variable font that moves fluidly along the width axis. An alternative stylistic set introduces specular counters and exaggerated drop terminals for further variation.
Classification
MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) lettering reimagined as a display type, with geometric construction, rounded strokes and monolinear weight. The inkball-derived forms and notched terminals place it firmly in the display category rather than any functional text classification.
