Onigiri specimen from Moontype

A single-weight display typeface by Julia Flomm in which every letterform is drawn to fit within the triangular silhouette of a Japanese onigiri rice ball.

About

Released in 2024–2025, Onigiri channels the shape of a Japanese rice ball into a full Latin character set, with uppercase letters pointing upward, lowercase pointing downward and punctuation offered in three orientational variants. The result is a bold, highly geometric face with a strong rhythmic consistency derived from its triangular constraint. Its playful personality is tightly bound to its structural premise, making it a niche but coherent novelty display font.

Classification

Each letterform is constrained within a triangular silhouette inspired by the Japanese rice ball, making this a purely geometric display face with no conventional serif or sans-serif lineage.
