MF Parma Sans

Metis Foundry · After Hours Studio

sans-serifgeometric sansitalic
MF Parma Sans specimen from Metis Foundry

Conceived by After Hours Studio and built by Metis, this variable sans derives its letterform logic from the dot-matrix stamp pressed into the rind of a Parmigiano Reggiano wheel, spanning 27 styles across three axes: weight, slant and stress.

About

Each character is built from nodes placed on horizontal rails rather than a fixed grid – the same free-on-one-axis, fixed-on-the-other logic as an abacus. The weight axis runs from hairline to heavy, slant tips letterforms to a 45-degree pitch, and the stress axis redistributes mass from crown to base. All 27 styles are delivered as a single variable font.

Classification

A geometric sans built on an irregular dot-matrix logic rather than a strict grid, with characters constructed from nodes on horizontal rails. Three variable axes – weight, slant and stress – give it an experimental, system-derived character distinct from conventional geometric sans families.
