An incised serif family in nine weights with matching italics, drawing on the tradition of sign painter lettering found on institutional buildings and civic landmarks.
About
Pier52 takes its visual cues from engraved and painted letterforms associated with institutional architecture, resulting in a family with slight stroke contrast and even proportions. The 18-style range spans Thin through Black, each with an italic, making it broadly usable across both display and body text settings. It is available to license via Monotype and includes an extensive feature set covering small capitals, old-style numerals, ligatures and ordinals.
Classification
Pier52 is an incised serif, characterised by letterforms that evoke chiselled or engraved lettering rather than pen-drawn strokes. The slight stroke contrast and even proportions align it with the glyphic/incised tradition used in institutional signage.
