The design pairs lowercase half-uncials drawn from 4th–7th century scribal traditions with an uppercase rooted in 4th-century square capitals — a combination Goudy himself called a 'typographic solecism'. Matteson completed the character set and added OpenType typographic features to maintain the authentic scribal character of the original. It suits ceremonial applications such as greeting cards, certificates and official documents.
