A 72-style Lao script family developed for Google's Noto project, spanning four widths and nine weights in both standard and vertically compact UI variants.

About

Designed to complement Noto Sans, Noto Lao Looped addresses the particular challenges of the Lao script, which stacks diacritic marks above and below the baseline. A dedicated UI subfamily compresses vertical space for interface contexts, requiring careful re-engineering of mark placement at heavier weights to maintain legibility. The family is freely available under the SIL Open Font License and has been well received among Lao readers.

Classification

A sans-serif design for the Lao script, developed as a companion to Noto Sans. The looped style reflects traditional Lao letterform conventions, placing it within the humanist sans tradition adapted for a non-Latin script.
