Fira Thai specimen from Mark Frömberg

A Thai script extension for FiraGO, commissioned by geo-data provider HERE and designed by Mark Frömberg with consultancy from Ben Mitchell.

About

Developed as part of a broader global script extension for FiraGO – itself derived from Fira Sans – this Thai addition was commissioned by HERE to support their mapping applications. The extension brings FiraGO into alignment with other large-coverage open-source families such as Noto and IBM Plex, supporting Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Vietnamese, IPA, Arabic, Devanagari, Georgian, Hebrew and Thai. Released under the Open Font Licence and available via bBox Type and GitHub.

Classification

Fira Thai is an extension of Fira Sans, a humanist sans-serif originally designed by Erik Spiekermann and Ralph du Carrois. The Thai script component follows the structural conventions of the Latin parent family.
