LDN Garamond
London Type Foundry · Paul Hickson · 2020

A revival of Claude Garamond's Renaissance typeface researched at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, released in 2020 with a companion set of hand-drawn ornamental initial capitals.
About
Paul Hickson's restoration draws on primary research into Garamond's early designs, resulting in a classically proportioned Garalde with multiple ligatures, figure sets, small caps and an extended Latin character set. A separate Initials font, with 26 individual floral illustrations drawn by hand by Patricia Hickson, provides ornate decorative capitals in two colour variations. The family is presented as a tribute to the historical cultural alliance between Britain and France.
Classification
A revival of Claude Garamond's Renaissance letterforms, placing it firmly in the Garalde category. The design draws directly from early Garamond sources studied at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, with classical proportions and an extended Latin character set.
