Nutcracker
Lipton Letter Design · Richard Lipton

A single-weight calligraphic display face rooted in Richard Lipton's hand lettering for a Font Bureau Christmas publication, expanded from cover art into a complete ornate titling alphabet.
About
Originally created as fanciful calligraphic lettering for the cover of a Christmas cut-out book on ballet, published by Boston's David R. Godine, Nutcracker was later completed into a full display typeface by Lipton. The design carries the expressive character of a skilled calligrapher's hand, suited to festive and decorative headline use. OpenType features include common ligatures, ordinal numerals and ornaments.
Classification
An ornate calligraphic titling face with fanciful letterforms derived from hand lettering, intended purely for festive display use rather than text setting.
