Rooted in Edward M. Catich's research into the origins of the Roman inscriptional style as seen on Trajan's column, Canto Brush represents the most gestural stage of a broader Canto series that progresses through Pen to formal Roman. Classical capitals are paired with Lipton's own calligraphic lowercase, supported by small caps, swashes and discretionary ligatures. The 'Open' subfamily retains the expressive brushwork at sizes where the standard cut might close up.
