Alhambra specimen from Lipton Letter Design

A calligraphic capitals display face by Richard Lipton, built around lavish alternate letterforms designed to break the static repetition that plagues lines of all-cap typesetting.

About

Lipton's background as a professional calligrapher drives the design logic here: rather than a single fixed letterform per character, Alhambra provides multiple alternates, particularly useful when doubled letters appear in sequence. The sensitive mixing of these variants introduces a handwritten spontaneity into otherwise mechanical typesetting. OpenType ornaments extend its decorative range.

Classification

An all-capitals display face rooted in calligraphic tradition, with multiple alternate letterforms per character to simulate the spontaneity of handwritten inscription. The ornamental character and capital-only structure place it firmly in the display category.
