Imperial specimen from Letterhead Fonts

A hand-drawn display face by Mark Searfoss evoking the sign-painting and label lettering traditions of late 19th to early 20th century America, with 39 alternates and ligatures included.

About

Drawn entirely from scratch by Searfoss, Imperial targets reproduction of period-accurate labels and signage from roughly 1880 to 1910. The design emphasises legibility and optical balance within the constraints of its historical idiom. The inclusion of 39 bonus alternates and ligatures gives users flexibility when composing authentic-looking period text.

Classification

A hand-drawn display face inspired by American sign painting and label lettering of the late 19th to early 20th century, placing it firmly in the display/lettering revival category rather than a text typeface tradition.
